El Mirasol has two separate Yelp listings for Palm Springs and no way to tell which belongs to the Palm Canyon location, so we left it blank rather than guess.
The gap is the story
Google runs higher than Yelp at every single restaurant on this list. That is normal. Google collects reviews from anyone with a phone and a prompt. Yelp attracts people who came specifically to file an opinion.
What varies is the size of the gap, and that variation is useful. Clandestino and Sancho’s score identically on both platforms. Las Casuelas Terraza swings 1.2 stars. When a restaurant scores well on Google and poorly on Yelp, it usually means the room is better than the plate — people had a good night and rated the night, while the crowd that came for dinner rated the dinner.
Read the Terraza reviews and that is exactly what surfaces. Live music comes up 54 times. So does the word “bland,” 20 times. One reviewer put it plainly: they would go back for the band and skip the food.

For tacos, three places separate from the pack
Tac/Quila is the volume winner: 169 taco mentions across our sample, 111 of them in five-star reviews and none in the bad ones. It is also the hardest table to get. “Reservation” appears 37 times and “wait” 69 times, more booking pressure than anywhere else on this list.

Low Desert matches it on quality and beats it on ease. Tacos come up 156 times, 135 of those in five-star reviews. Happy hour is mentioned 44 times, the strongest happy-hour signal of any restaurant we looked at, and the menu runs $4 to $26.

El Jefe, inside the Saguaro, draws 152 taco mentions and 37 for nachos — and not one of those nacho mentions sits in a one- or two-star review. Happy hour comes up 39 times. The Yelp crowd is harsher here than the Google crowd by 0.7 stars, which fits a hotel bar where the room does a lot of the work.

If you want to sit outside, El Patio earns its name
Ninety-eight reviews mention the patio. That is the highest count for any single feature at any restaurant in this dataset, and it is not close. Tacos land 60 five-star mentions against six poor ones, and margaritas 52 against five.
Fifty-five reviews mention waiting, so this is not a walk-in-at-eight kind of place on a Saturday.

Cheap, fast, and genuinely good
Taqueria Tlaquepaque runs $3.75 to $21.25 on its posted menu, the lowest prices we found. Birria shows up 20 times. Tacos get 47 five-star mentions and zero poor ones, which is a cleaner split than several restaurants charging three times as much. Almost nobody mentions atmosphere — five patio mentions in the whole sample — because this is a food place, not a vibe place.

Worth knowing before you book for a group
Here is the thing the star ratings hide. We checked all 18 restaurant websites. Three have a page for private dining or large groups: Blue Coyote Grill, Clandestino, and Low Desert. Tac/Quila’s site mentions groups only as far as four guests.
Meanwhile “wait” is the most common complaint at nearly every restaurant on this list — 81 mentions at Las Casuelas Terraza, 75 at Maracas, 69 at Tac/Quila and Las Casuelas Original. January through April, those numbers reflect a real problem rather than a grumble.
So if you are eight people, book ahead and you will be fine. If you are sixteen on a Saturday in February, you are going to struggle, and the restaurants that could take you are the three with a private dining page.
The Mexican dinner nobody drives home from
Go back to the trade-off. The courtyard at Las Casuelas Terraza is one of the loveliest places to sit in this town, and the food scores 3.0 on Yelp. Crudo puts out the best ceviche in Palm Springs from a suite the size of a living room, with a queue. El Patio has the patio everyone wants and a 55-review waiting problem. You pick the room or you pick the plate.
Unless you already have the room. Most people reading this are staying somewhere with a pool, a long table and a kitchen nobody intends to use. That is a better dining room than any restaurant on this list can offer you, and it is already paid for.
A Mexican menu is one of the best things to hand a chef, because the dishes this data says people rave about are exactly the ones that reward being cooked in front of you. Ceviche cured that afternoon rather than that morning. Birria that has been going since breakfast. Mole, which almost nobody makes properly and which took eleven five-star mentions at El Mirasol alone. Chile relleno, churros pulled out of the fryer at the table instead of arriving lukewarm. Margaritas poured for your group rather than rationed by a bar with a queue behind it.
Nobody waits for a table. Nobody drives. The vegetarian gets a real plate instead of a side of rice, the guest with the shellfish allergy is planned for rather than apologised to, and the meal runs as long as the evening does.
Then there is the thing the star ratings cannot measure at all. Across these 4,210 reviews, a band or live music comes up 126 times and the word crowded 93 times. Nineteen people wrote that they felt rushed.
